ski + SF

it wasnt the best trip i'd say
taking care of 7 boys who supposedly can take care of themselves was the hardest task
snowboarding = death
my legs were burbing afterwards
it was terrible
never again

still had fun tho
the tour guide we had in SF was awesome
he's very knowledable and he has a brit accent!
he left england when he was 17 to travel the world
the bus tour was a great way to get a brief overview of SF

auntie ruth opened up her house for us to stay at
the boys had to cram in the study room
the study room became a concentration camp
we had a lot of food
we had a dumpling night after SF
and a potluck on xmas day
when she also had a gospel sharing meeting

one thing i learned from her is that
we can careless about what people will think and just share the gospel

Carrying $/ ATMs & Credit Cards/ Safety tips

Carrying Money
The general rule is that you should never carry too much cash with you, even as you arrive in your host country.  As a practice, I normally have no more than the equivalent of US$500 in cash when I arrive in a country, US$200-300, possibly less, of which will be in the local currency. The actual amount depends on your location: if the country is largely cash-based, e.g. Egypt, Jordan, and Morocco, I will have more cash on hand; if the country is credit-card-friendly, e.g. UK and Ireland, I will have less cash when I arrive and just make withdrawals after arriving.

Should you carry cash with you, make sure that it is with you — NOT in your check-in!!  It is also wise to have a money belt, especially if you arriving in an area that is crowded.  You should also split up your cash: some in your money belt, a small amount in your wallet, another amount in your pockets, and some in your carry-on bag.

HAVE SMALL CHANGE!  This includes both local and US currency.  Have several small US and local currency, which you can easily pull out for tipping (if the country has a culture of tipping or if you feel like it) without having to flash a large wad of cash in public.

Please also remember that if you need to make payment for a visa entry stamp, plan to have exact change, e.g. in Egypt and Jordan, you will need to pay in US dollars.

Some travelers recommend carrying traveler's cheques as a back-up source of funds.  Having traveler's cheques is useful in some countries, but it can be an inconvenience, in terms of cashing the travelers cheques, in other countries.

NOTE:  Personal checks drawn on US banks are NOT ACCEPTABLE overseas.

The Lonely Planet guidebooks (Directory section) provide very good information on carrying and managing money in your host country.

ATMs and Credit/Debit Cards
Most U.S. credit and debit cards will allow you to access your home bank funds, as long as it is connected to the Cirrus and/or PLUS systems: http://www.independenttraveler.com/resources/article.cfm?AID=41&category=8.

Visa and Mastercard are the most convenient cards for international travel.  American Express is useful for making credit card purchases in some places, although less widely accepted than Visa and Mastercard.

If your Personal Identification Number is more than four numbers long, get it changed before departing, since some countries only permit 4-digit PINs.
If you use your credit/debit card for purchases overseas, be aware that your country may have different procedures for handling credit/debit cards.  Australia has a system called EFTPOS, which is similar to that in the US, but has a few small differences that may initially throw you off.  Just ask for an explanation at the counter if you feel a little lost.  Don't freak out.

In the UK, Ireland, Europe — and increasingly, across Asia — ATMs and points of purchases will only accept smart cards (debit/credit cards with a microchips).  These cards are used to reduce the occurrence of fraud.  In the UK, for instance, a representative of the place that you are making your purchase in is required to bring a handheld debit/credit card reader to you so that you may enter your PIN in it.  In other words, the vendor must perform the credit/debit card transaction in your presence.  Most US credit/debit cards do not work on those machines and the vendor will be required to bring one that issues receipts.  Not every place carries machines to read cards that do not carry a chip.  It is advisable that you ask your issuing bank if they are able to change your existing card to a smart card, i.e. one with a microchip.  For more details, please visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smartcard as well as www.lonelyplanet.com and look up the Money section.

From the England pages on www.lonelyplanet.com:
Since early 2006, nearly all credit and debit cards use the ‘Chip and PIN’ system; instead of signing, you enter a PIN (personal identification number). If you’re from overseas, and your card isn’t Chip and PIN enabled, you should be able to sign in the usual way, but some places will not accept your card.

It is very important that you notify your bank that you will be making purchases/charges from the countries that you will be visiting.  Additionally, you should provide them with the estimated dates of your travel.  Various students, in the past, have had their accounts blocked after making just one international transaction.  Even if you have informed your bank of your travel plans, it is advisable to have a back-up source of funds should a "freeze" on your card occur.  As discussed at the Health & Safety Orientation, make copies of the front and back of your credit/debit cards and know how to get in touch with your bank while you are overseas.

When overseas, it is useful to check your local bank account and/or credit card account regularly, especially if you are making purchases and withdrawals against your local bank and/or credit card account.  This will help you notice any discrepancies or fraud as soon as they appear.  If you notice a transaction on your account that you do not authorize, inform your bank immediately.

Alternatively, you may obtain a pre-paid card that functions almost like a credit or debit card and can be topped up as well.  The major advantage of having a pre-paid cash card is that it is not tied to your local bank and/or credit card account.  One possibility is the AAA Visa Travel Money Card: http://www.autoclubgroup.com/chicago/travel/index.aspx and then click on "Travel Money and Cheques" from the menu on the left of the page.  Please check that the card can be used overseas before purchasing it.

For those spending a semester or year overseas, you may wish to consider opening a bank account in your host country and using the debit card that they issue.  Besides the advantage of the card not being attached to your home accounts, there is also the benefit of having an account to wire money to, should there be an emergency.  Naturally, you should opt for a bank that has multiple branches throughout the country or region you are studying abroad in.  This option is highly recommended for students going to the UK for the academic year.  You should check with your US bank is it has linkages with banks in your host country.  Some US banks are associated with banks in your host countries, which might make opening a local account easier.

When making withdrawals from ATMs, please beware of surcharges.  In many countries overseas, there isn't a fee for withdrawing from another bank, but your local bank will add a transaction fee, which can range from $1 to $3.  Please note that some credit card companies also charge a fee for converting foreign currency to US currency on transactions made.
Finally, if you are going out to the clubs/bars overseas, do NOT leave your card with the bartender.  Pay cash or charge each individual round of drinks.  Do not run a tab and leave your credit card behind the bar or with the bartender/server.  Please review the safety tips at the end of this section for other advice regarding your money.

Safety Tips
At orientation, we addressed ways to protect your identity and what you will need to do should your credit card be stolen.  That Powerpoint presentation can be viewed on https://www.studyabroad.illinois.edu.  Here are some reminders:
  • Make copies of your credit and debit cards (both sides);
  • Leave one set with your family/relatives/trusted friend (it is not advisable to leave such information with someone you're just dating);
  • Include on those copies the 24-hour emergency number (in the U.S. and in your host country) that you would need to call should you need to cancel your card.
  • If your belongings are stolen or if your card is swallowed up by an ATM machine, cancel your card immediately.
I also keep my credit card information and emergency numbers on my personal e-mail account when I travel – delete that e-mail as soon as you don't need it further.  Of course, make sure that you are very careful when logging onto your e-mail account from a public computer.  Make sure you log off and FILE & QUIT the application as soon as you are done; do not simply click to close the window.

Finally, a reiteration of what was printed in the Health & Safety Tips about using ATM machines:

Cash machines are favorite hunting groups for sophisticated conmen who use cunning rather than force to seal money. Never underestimate their ability and don't get drawn into any interaction at an ATM, no matter how well-spoken, friendly or distressed the other person appears.  If they claim to have a problem with the machine, tell them to contact the bank.  Don't let people crowd you or see your Personal Identification Number (PIN) when you withdraw money.  If in doubt, go to another machine.  Use an ATM machine during the day and remain in well-lit areas.  Where possible, use the cash machine during business hours, when the bank is open.  If there is an ATM machine IN the bank during the business hours, use that machine, not the one outside the bank.  Finally, if your card gets swallowed, report it without delay.

God is better than sex

Give up your life

“He gave up his place with God and made himself nothing.”  Philippians 2:7
God grants us an uncommon life to the degree we surrender our common one.  “If you try to keep your life for yourself, you will lose it.  But if you give up your life for me, you will find true life” (Matt. 16:25 NLT).
Jesus did.  He “made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men…He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death” (Phil. 2:7-8).
No one in Nazareth saluted him as the Son of God.  He did not stand out in his elementary-classroom photograph, demanded no glossy page in his high school annual.  Friends knew him as a woodworker, not a star hanger.  His looks turned no heads; his position earned him no credit.  “He gave up his place with God and made himself nothing.”
God hunts for those who will do likewise—people through whom he can deliver Christ into the world.

It's okay to turn around
and tell God that you need Him

It's possible
If you want it
It's possible

Jaeson Ma

Lyrics:
Verse 1
Now Hollywood wants to make you think they know what love is. But I'm a tell you what true love is. Love is not what you see in the movies. Its not the ecstasy, its not what you see in that scene, you know what I mean? I'm telling you right now, true love is sacrifice. Love is thinking about others before you think about yourself, love is selfless not selfish. Love is God and God is love. Love is when you lay down your life for another, whether for your brother, your mother, your father or your sister, its even laying down your life for your enemies, that's unthinkable, but think about that. Love is true. Think.

Chorus:

I'll put you in front of me
So everybody can see
My love, this is my love

I know that I'll be alright
As long as you are my guide
My love, this is my love

Verse 2
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, it always perseveres.
Love never fails. Love is everlasting, its eternal, it goes on and on, it goes beyond time, love is the only thing that will last when you die, but ask the question why? Do you have love?

Chorus

Verse 3
There is no greater love than this than he who lays down his life for his friends. Now are you willing to lay down your life for your friends? You're probably willing to lay down your life for your mother, your father, or your best friends, but are you willing to lay down your life for even those that hate you? I'm going to tell you who did that, the definition of love is Jesus Christ. He is love. The nails in his hands, the thorns in his brow, hanging on a cross for your sin my sins, that is LOVE he died for you and me while we still hated him, that is love. God is true love, and if you don't know this love, now is the time to know, perfect love.

Chorus

Tuesday, October 20, 2009

I'm ready to run back to God. In fact, I'm running back to God at 500mph right now! I was so far away from God for the past two months. I skipped church, small groups, large groups... I didn't want to do anything Christian related.

Until Samantha called me and asked me if I was going to small group today. If she didn't call me, I wouldn't have gone. God put the right people in my life and tell them to talk to me at the right time :) Thank you to all those who helped me out.

At small group, I prayed for the Holy Spirit to fill me up and God answered my prayer. I was filled with the Holy Spirit by the end of small group.

I miss God a lot.

I WANT God in my life! I don't ever want to be away from Him anymore (I know I will in the future, but I'm going to try really hard to not let it happen). Why did I run away from someone who loves me unconditionally? I don't know, but I know I don't want to do that again.

Confirmation deposit & Cert. of Eligibility

When you go through a 3rd party provider (CIEE or IES), it gets a little confusing when you need to make payments and send in required materials. Some materials will go to IES and some go to SAO. The general rule is that what comes from SAO goes back to SAO and IES to IES. If SAO wants you to pay anything, they will charge your student account. If IES needs you to pay something, you'll probably have to write a check to IES.

Apply for COE is quite a process. COE is needed for applying Jpn student visa, so even though it's an annoying process, it's necessary. In the Confirmation Instructions and Acceptance Package IES gave me is information and instructions on preparing everything needed to apply for COE. I guess this is the great thing about going through a 3rd party provider, they set up everything for you to make it as easy as possible for you.

Materials needed to apply COE:
- an Official Bank Letter stating that whoever is supporting me financially has at least USD 6000 in their account
- upload passport photo to the IES acct.

IES will provide a sample official bank letter for you to take to your bank.

Congratulations from IES Abroad

2 applications......

Since I'm studying abroad with IES (3rd party provider), I have to fill out their app too. All I had to do was sign in to the IES website and turn in everything they tell me to. Not too hard.

all nighter

I pulled an all nighter last night, which means school officially started yesterday. I'm so messed up now, I sleep in the afternoon and stay awake all night. I was totally fishing in class today, it was hard to stay awake. When I got home, I slept from 3pm - 9pm, 6 hours of sleep in the afternoon. Don't think I'll be able to sleep tonight.

Recently, I got addicted to Greek (thanks to Kim). And thanks to Hulu, because I won't be able to catch up the show without it. I now have hulu as a bookmark :P What am I going to do when I'm not in the States?!

I've decided to study abroad in Japan

After taking Japanese 201 my first semester freshman year, I decided not to learn Japanese any more. I couldn't stand going to class 5 days a week and have quizzes everyday. But my dad kept forcing me to learn Japanese. To satisfy him (or more like to shut him up), I decided to spend $18,000 + a semester study abroad in Japan.

I was originally planning on studying in Waseda, but they only have academic year program and limited space. Then, I thought about the Uni. of Nagoya, but they need at least a year of Japanese. Keio and the U of I started an exchange program last semester, but there are only 2 spots, cuz Keio only sent 2 students to our school. After speaking to SAO study abroad advisor for a looonng time, I decided to apply to the IES Tokyo Society and Culture program. Sadly, it's the most expensive program ever!

Since I already studied abroad 3 times in the past 2 years, I know the process pretty well. I went to the UIUC Study Abroad website to do the application. Now, all I have to do is wait.

If you're interested in studying abroad, attend a First Step Meeting, dates can be found on SAO website: https://www.studyabroad.illinois.edu/. You have to attend the meeting before you're allowed to apply to a program.

First 3 weeks of school

CNN

Advertising vs. Christianlity

Cross Cultural Psyc: Experiencing a Culturally Different Ecology: Rainbow

There is a first time for everything

I did not know what kind of feelings I had when I was preparing to visit the lesbian bar.  I was thinking of it as an assignment that I had to do, but did not really want to do.  I was probably a little bit excited because I had never been to a gay bar before.  After walking around for an hour, Leah and I finally found the bar.  When I got to the building and walked up the stairs, I was complaining about how the bar was so hard to find.  The door of the bar was a heavy iron door which people cannot look through as though the bar was a secretive place.  I walked in and saw a bar that was half the size of our psychology classroom, and four people in the bar and I thought to myself “this place is tiny and crap, there is no one here.  This is going to be awkward.”  Sure enough, it was an awkward feeling.  The awkward feeling might have come from the fact that neither Leah nor I know what the appropriate behavior was, we did not know what we should do.  Leah and I sat alone near the window, when all the other people sat around the bar table.  I had this uneasy feeling rising within me, not because I was afraid of being hit on.  I actually thought it would be really cool if I get hit on by a lesbian.  The uneasy feeling came from uncertainties.  I was not sure if I should pretend to be a lesbian or not and how to start a conversation with them.  I did not know what they will think of me if I was heterosexual and what would happen if I lied to them by saying I was a homosexual.  The owner then invited us to sit with the other people and we started chatting with them like we would when we make new friends.  It was the exact feeling I had when I talk to random strangers, except for the guilty feeling I had since I felt that I was “lying” to them.  I felt that I was lying because I was there for a class assignment and I talked to them because I had a class assignment.

These happened in the bar

We talked about how men sometimes never get the message we were sending.  We bashed those nasty men who attempted to sexually abuse us together.  We shared our unpleasant encounters with men and got excited when we all had been in the same situation before.  All a sudden, we bonded through these talks of similar experiences that we had.  There was a girl my age who was interested in me and that made me more confident.  I got more comfortable as we talked and I felt that they were excited to meet someone from a foreign country.  Later on, the owner asked me if I am a lesbian.  I knew that question was coming, but I did not have the answer.  I did not know whether I should lie or not, so I smiled.  I thought she felt I was a bit weird that I smiled.  She asked me why I smiled and I answered her “well, I don’t know how Koreans view lesbians.  It seems like it’s a taboo here”.  This opened up another discussion about different views on homosexuality from different countries, so it turned out to be fine that I smiled.

Study them

After my interaction with them, I do not think there is much study which needs to be done about homosexuals.  They are just like any other human beings.  In fact, I find them easier to talk to. They are nice, they are friendly, and they are more welcoming and more open-minded than some heterosexuals are.  I think especially because we were all girls, it made it even easier to bond with them.  I find it hard to comprehend why some people think they have mental problems.  I believe if any study is to be done, I would need to develop an understanding of the mind of the people who think homosexuals have “problems”.  I have friends who do not have any homosexual friend at all and have never interacted with a homosexual person, but think that homosexuals have “problems”.  I consider those who think homosexuals have “problems” the ones with real problems.

Theories

The people who think homosexuals have “problems” probably fit into Hofstede’s Cultural Dimensions- Uncertainty Avoidance.  They feel threatened by the homosexual community because they do not know the community, they developed the belief that “homosexuals have problems” to avoid them.  They are also “separationists” in the Models of Acculturation (Berry, 1990, 1997) who rejects the other culture’s values and beliefs.  Although the model is used for immigrants, I think it can be used here since homosexuality and heterosexuality are two different cultures.  I think I am a “marginalist”, although I do not identify with the homosexual act, but I share similar beliefs with them.  I believe that they should have the same rights heterosexuals enjoy.

korea: coming to an end

I didn't know that I'm gonna like Korea this much, heheh. After spending a month in Korea, I totally fell in love with this place. Korea's great, Seoul's a lot of fun, I really like Yonsei University's location and the people I met here. I met so many great people and made a lot of new friends. I went to visit one of my new friend's house in Ulsan last weekend :) I went to Mokpo, Daegu and Ulsan to visit my friends the first weekend I was in Korea. It was quite an adventure cuz I don't speak Korean at all. I was using a lot of body language (actually, I'm still using body language) :P

People here are really nice, very friendly and helpful. But they don't say sorry if they bumped into you or stepped on your toes with their high heels. The hierarchy here is strict. Even if I'm good friends with people older than me, I have to respect them and call them "oppa" (older brother) or "onni" (older sister). When you intro yourself, you're supposed to tell your age too. Women here are not afriad to tell their age, they even ask you to guess how old they are. They care so much about age because they have different ways to speak to older/younger/same age people. With older people, you use the most polite way, and the not as polite way to same age/ younger people. I'm kinda glad that I'm a foreinger cuz it's not that big of a deal if I screw up since my friends know that I'm not a Korean. Elderly people are highly respected, no one ever sits in the "reserved for old people seats" on buses and subways even when there is no old people around.

I went to JimJilBang and Karaoke and I went to Everland. I go shopping a lot. Warning for girls: girls who are coming to Korea that they need to bring their best clothes and high heels, or tell them not to bring any clothes with them and buy new ones here. Korean girls dress really nicely. Clothes that American girls go clubbing with (NOT the "hi, look at my boobs" ones) are they clothes Korean girls wear to school. I think girls here wake up 5 hours before class to put on their make up and do their hair.

Korea's fun BUT I have to complain about the YISS program.

The professors they hired for the summer program kind of sucks a lot. I won't complain about that cuz there are bad professors in every uni. BUT seriously, can't you spend a little more money to invite better professors? The average for my Macroecon midterm was 54% (without a curve), which means the majority of the class failed the midterm. If it a few people failed, then it's the students' problem; if most of the students' failed, it's the professor's problem! I've never taken a more boring class than my Macroecon class right now. It's sad that I have to deal with a crappy professor in the summer.

International House is really old and the bathroom stinks and the showers flood and the A/C blows out smelly air. And there are so many bugs in the room! Construction right beside I-House starts from 7am every single day, including Sunday! They said that they'll try to reduce the noise. Reduce 他的頭! They were drilling the floor this one day and my bed started shaking, it was 7am on a weekend! WTF?! On the website, it says that there will be 5 extra curricular activities on Friday that we can choose from, we ended up only having 2 extra curricular activities (Hip Hop and Taekwondo). What the heck?! I wanted to take Bojagi Making. And about the field trips: since they're not having a lot of extra curricular, shouldn't they let more students join the field trips instead of just having 90 seats/ field trip?! How many people are in the YISS program? Like at least 300? 90 seats isn't even enough for 1/2 of the students here! Grrrrr......

I wish there's no final exam and I'm not taking 3 classes, so I can enjoy Korea more.

Korean guys are hot! i think im starting to like guys with single eyelid. this guy i met in church is totally the type i like! he's kinda 8 yrs older than me tho.... and my friends here say that he looks like "ajussi"

Letters to home from Korea

Hi,

I'm already in the International House in Yonsei University. I got here at 6pm. Everything's settled, I made a few new friends and went out to dinner with them. This is my Korea cell phone number: (82) 010-8659-797401. I have friend in Korea (Christie Fox: 010-3218-4122) and I'm going to hang out with her tomorrow. We will go to Ulsan, then we will go to Daegu.

Korea's fashion is so different from Hong Kong/ Taiwan/ America. Women here all wear heels and they seem to have the super power to walk 50 miles with their heels on the entire day. Incheon and Seoul both look kind of like Taipei, except everything here looks newer. A lot of people here thought that I am Korea. They will start speaking to me in Korean, then I will quickly tell them in English "no Korea". It's hard getting around, because people here don't speak very good English and I don't speak Korean.

<3, Ya-Ya

Hi,

Today is the first day of class. I'm taking 3 classes Monday to Thursday from 9am - 3:40pm: Macroeconomics, Cross Culture Psychology and Marketing. Macroeconomics is the most boring class, the professor is from Bates College and has no idea how to lecture. Cross Culture Psychology is so far the best. The professor is Japanese but he teaches in UCLA. Marketing's professor went to my college for his master and PhD degrees. I didn't get to meet him today because he was in a conference. I met a lot of people from my school, but are not living in the International House.

Last weekend, I went to Ulsan, Daegu and Mokpo to visit my friend Christie who is teaching ENglish here in Korea. I went to Norebang (karaoke), stayed in a Jimjilbang for a night (a very Korean style hotel), and stayed with Christie (my friend)'s host family for 2 days. I met a lot of her friends who are also teaching English in Korea. I also went to visit the school she's primary school she is teaching in. The kids are all very nice and shy. They were all very excited to see me (a new face in the school). It was a fun weekend.
Alright, that's it for this week. Take care.

Love,
Ya-Ya

Korea Day 1

this is absolutely ridiculous!

How the heck did the Study Abroad Office mix up mainland China and Taiwan?! Study Abroad Office should be one of the departments on campus that knows the most about different countries! If a student who just doesn't read the newspaper and knows nothing about international issues gets confuse about this, fine. BUT THIS IS THE STUDY ABROAD OFFICE. I'm absolutely ashamed that the Study Abroad Office made this kind of mistake.
Page 5 of the Study Abroad Newsletter :
China- Annette Lu (Error 1: it should be "Taiwan- Annette Lu" or "Republic of China- Annette Lu")
As the first female Vice-President of China (Error 2: same problem), Annette Lu used her University of Illinois Master of Law (L.L.M.) degree to pave the way for females in politics. Lu was born in northern Taiwan, and studied law during her undergraduate career. She received an L.L.M. in 1970 from the University of Illinois, continuing on to Harvard Law School. On March 18, 2000, Annette Lu was elected to the Vice Presidency. If you are interested in China (Error 3) or investigating politics, consider the following programs:
(If the section title is "China- Hu Jintao", Errors 3 & 4 are not errors. BUT the title is Annette Lu)
SAO Exchange: Chinese University of Hong Kong
SAO Exchange: The University of Hong Kong
LAS/SAO Winter Break Course Abroad: GLBL 298, Shanghai, China
(Error 4: Hong Kong and Shanghai are in China, not Taiwan = the programs have NOTHING to do with Taiwan and Annette Lu being the 1st female VP of Taiwan!)

No U Turn

Email from housing:
Hello Yinting

I have received your request to move to a different residence hall. Congratulations! You are now living in Global Crossroads in PAR!
Also, please be aware that once a student submits a request and has been moved, that student cannot submit an additional request to be moved. Students will be moved only one time prior to classes starting. No exceptions. Therefore, you will not be moved again because your request to move has been accommodated.

I hope that you enjoy your summer. We look forward to seeing you in the Fall!

To be honest, I'm actually really scared right now. I have no idea what PAR's gonna be like. It's far and it's not Allen. There aren't gonna be people in the front porch doing whatever, carrying guitars around, singing in random places, painting or making pottery. I think I'm gonna cry now :'( Allen Hall, I miss you already.
PAR is going to be a new experience. Hi PAR and international students, Yinting is coming. Be ready :P
If you lead me Lord I will follow
Where you lead me Lord I will go
Come and lead me Lord I will follow
Where you lead me Lord I will go
I will go

You are going into the trash can

Anger
Titles
Status
Worldly success
Bitterness
Jealousy
Hatred

Thank you

Thank you for Phillis's message about broken relationships and thank you Andy for teaching Mark 1 that taught me about the Kingdom of God. I have a broken relationship with IV. I was actually leaving IV and didn't want to have anything to do with it for the rest of my college life after CFW. CFW was going to be the last IV thing I do. I told people that I need a break from IV because IV was hurting me. I lied. I wanted to escape because I didn't know how to deal with IV anymore. I didn't want to let God grow me through the problems I faced. I was angry and bitter towards IV. I wanted to escape. This week has made me realized that my eyes weren't set on God. Even though there are problems in IV, God is still working. Witnessing Chelsea coming to Christ has been a great testimony for me and encouraged me a lot. It showed me that God can work through anything and all I have to do is to humble myself and let God show his glory. God is good!

CFW

i'm so glad that i went
and i'm so glad that it's in timber wolf
that camp was pretty!
i met so many people from other areas
got to know all these cool people that i didnt know before
then realized that they graduated
and i wont see them again
what the heck?!
but im so glad that i met you before i'll never see you again

soph year

2 years gone, unblievable
I only have 2 years of college left

this year was unexpectedly harder than i thougt it would be

seek first His kingdom

My 2 years in IV has been absolutely amazing
amazing not because everything with IV went smoothly
and i didnt have a single problem with IV
not because I was always happy in IV
not because IV is perfect
but beause IV has challenged me to grow
some of you remember how loud I screamed
when I saw the IV booth on Quad Day my frosh year
IV was the greatest thing ever to me that year

then came my soph yr
things started to change
i saw problems
they started floating around
i got frustrated
i got angry
i started not going to large groups/small group and prayer meetings
i was constatnly looking for excuses to not go
by the end of the year, i said to myself
im not going to IV anymore

but Chapter Focus Week changed my mind
this is what i learned:
Don't dwell in all the tiny things that make you angry and bitter right now
seek his kingdom first
and put god first
if you do that
everything else will fall in the right place

GOOGLE

whenever people ask me what my dream is
i tell them that i wanna be the ceo of google, yahoo and apple
which is obviously quite impossible

i finally switched over to chrome
downloaded google earth
and in the process of figuring out how i can switch fm xanga to blogger

chrome is ok
there're websites that take forever to load
and websites that don't work for chrome
i was thinking bout deleting both firefox and IE on my computer
i think i should at least keep IE just in case

but
google earth is crazy!
im traveling the world with this thing!
climbing mountains
sailing the ocean
visiting home (yea.. i searched for my home in hong kong)
walking around chambana
it's great!
